Blog EntryPicture Perfect: ContrastJan 17, '08 6:23 PM
for everyone

(This picture is COMPLETELY un-retouched, taken by my Kodak Easyshare v530 at 3am during a full moon 2 summers ago.)

It was 3am and Matt and I were just heading off to bed after staying up late watching movies. Matt calls me outside because of the brilliant moon; it was so bright that it hurt your eyes to look right at it, and it was actually making shadows.  So I ran inside and grabbed the camera wanting to see if I could capture the moon for once.  I decided to frame the moon in the sunflowers so I took aim and started shooting.  I got several great pictures out of that 'session', a couple of which I've got framed and hanging up in the house.

This one was completely unexpected.   I still haven't figured out how it took a picture like that, but when we were previewing the pictures, this one was actually hard to look at, it was so bright.  I almost deleted it right then and there, but decided to go ahead and download it and see how it looked on the computer.  I'm glad I did!

The theme this week is:

'Contrast'

I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with :) Have fun and remember, it's not a competition. All photos are good!

And now some rules for the newbies

(not that anyone pays them the slightest bit of attention)

~ Each week a theme will be posted up on Wednesday, and you are invited to put up your best picture

with that theme in mind, it should be just

 ONE and ORIGINAL,

 i.e not off the internet,

Then come back and post a comment on this page

so that everyone can link to your blog and see your pic.

By all means mention your camera and lens used, and if the picture has been altered or enhanced in anyway! Out of the box thinking is encouraged!!

Please open your page for viewing for all for that day...and then visit as many others as you can! Try and post a decent size pic on your blog page, so much is lost if the pic is too small or too big.

The entries will close at midnight on Friday.

Play nice....and have fun out there!

....ooOoo....

Wow! That is one cool picture. I haven't had much luck taking pictures of the moon, either, so I'm really impressed. Nice job.
ninakobie wrote on Jan 17
This is really a very neat photo. The flower is so bright, it hurts your eyes when you look at it for a while. Do you think it could have been caused by a lens flare. I know they do happen sometimes when you take a picture of something really bright such as the sun or the moon in this case. Most of the time lens flares are annoying and not something you particularly want in a photo but in some instances, they add unusual twists to photos. It's a good thing you didn't destroy it. I really like it.

That has to be the weirdest exposure ever but it's wonderful! The way the little hairy details show up on the sunflowers, wow...

Nice shot -- I assume your flash went off automatically (since it was dark) and illumnated the flower. Very nice to have the moon in the background.
