I had to really think about this one, because, being a stay at home mom....I don't necessarily have a life "outside one's regular occupation"! hahahahahaha!!! That being said, I had to think, "now, what do I like to do in my spare time, time when I'm not 'being a mom'?" I'm not a collector of things, necessarily...ok, not at all! And I don't have the time or money right now to pursue horseback riding enough to consider that a 'hobby',although it would be one thing that could be considered 'outside one's regular occupation'.
Relaxation. Hmmm...now,that's a word that can have many different meanings to people. What do I do to relax? What relaxes me, makes me feel peaceful and calm?
Well, ever since we moved to this house two years ago, I've started enjoying the beautiful sunsets behind our house. One of the things that attracted me to this house in the first place was the potential for great sunsets. Our property is backed up to a large working farm, and so we have nothing but fields behind our house. Some years it's corn, some years soybeans, some years hay.
It's become a habit of mine, especially in the summer, to go sit on the back deck with a coffee and just watch the sun go down.....usually with my camera ready! I'm constantly amazed at the variety of sunsets I see. It's never the same, from day to day, vastly different. Some nights, the sun goes down without a 'sunset' at all, some nights it's a brilliant firey red, and some nights it's beautiful pink and purple softness. I feel closest to God at those times, and often spend my time just talking to Him, thanking Him for another day and praising His Goodness.
I'm going to break a rule this week, and post several pictures I've taken of the sunsets I see from my back yard, just to give you an idea of the variety. Enjoy!!
Matt and I have joked that we may never be able to leave this house, unless we find another place with a view of the sunsets like this one! :) I feel so lucky to be able to have a view like this every day!
In the end, I supposed you could say that my "hobby" is collecting pictures of sunsets! I do it everywhere I go, I've got sunsets from all over the country. It's definitely a great way to combine my love of photography with my love of sunsets! :)
